B-W Volleyball Team Defeats Thomas More and Nazareth at Trinity (Texas) University Fall Classic
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team defeated it's opponent Thomas More and Nazareth (New York) on the second day of the Trinity (Texas) University Fall Classic. The Yellow Jackets defeated Thomas More, 30-20, 30-19, 30-15, and Nazareth, the 20th-ranked team, 21-30, 30-21, 30-23, 30-26.
Leading the front row attack against Thomas More was junior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference middle hitter Cassie Palmer (Greenwich South Central) with 15 kills. She was followed by senior Academic All-OAC outside hitter Sarah Gordon (Wooster Senior) and junior right side player Emily Bowen (Tiffin Columbian) with 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Gordon also aided the defense with 10 digs. In addition sophomore, outside hitter Laura Leach (Norwalk) contributed with three service aces.
Against Nazareth, Gordon added 17 kills and teammate Palmer contributed with 16 kills and two serving aces. Emily Albanese (Mentor) also had a strong contribution to the success against Nazareth with 21 digs.
In last night's action against Trinity and Dubuque two milestones were reached. Kate Kost (Fairview Park) surpassed Regan Pore (1997-2000) as the B-W all-time career leader in digs. She now has 1,774 career digs after adding 22 digs today against Thomas More and 28 against Nazareth. In addition, junior setter Kerry Helm (Luckey Eastwood) passed the 2000 career set assists plateau last night. Helm has 2160 career sets after adding 101 assists today.
For their efforts this weekend, Cassie Palmer and Sarah Gordon were named to the All-Tournament Team. In four matches and 12 games, Palmer had a team-best 59 kills. Gordon had 50 kills and led the defense with 63 digs.
