B-W Volleyball Beats Otterbein in the Quarterfinals of the OAC Tournament 3-0

BEREA, OHIO -- The 12th-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Otterbein College, 3-0, tonight in the quarterfinal round of the OAC Tournament at the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea. The scores of the match were 30-25, 30-17 and 30-27.

With its win, B-W now advances to the OAC Final Four at Ohio Northern University this Friday and Saturday at the ONU Sports Center in Ada. The Yellow Jackets will play the winner of the John Carroll University versus Capital University match that is also being played tonight in Columbus. The B-W versus Capital-JCU match will take place on Friday at 5:00 p.m. The 2002 OAC Championship match is Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

With its win, B-W is now 27-6 overall. With its loss, Otterbein ended its season at 18-12 overall.

Offensively, the B-W front line was led by senior Sarah Gordon (Wooster Senior High School) and junior Emily Bowen (Tiffin Columbian H.S.) with 12 kills each and junior Cassie Palmer (Greewich South Central H.S.) and sophomore Laura Leach (Norwalk Senior H.S.) each had 10 kills. Defensively, the Yellow Jackets were led by Gordon with 20 digs and OAC all-time leader Kate Kost (Fairview Park H.S.) had 19 to push her OAC career-record total to 2,101. Junior Kerry Helm (Luckey Eastwood H.S) also contributed 49 set assists.

Offensively, the Otterbein front line was led by junior Jess Lonjak with 10 kills. She was the only player in double digits. Defensively, the Cardinals were led by junior Katie Peterson with eight digs and the trio of Lonjak and seniors Jessie Boyer and Brook Cann each had three blocks. Cann also led the Cardinals with 25 set assists.
