Baldwin-Wallace College Defeats Otterbein in Women's Volleyball in Berea, 30-23, 30-19, 30-18
BEREA, OHIO -- The 23rd-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team ran its winning streak to 11 straight matches today as it defeated Ohion Athletic Conference rival Otterbein College in the Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea, 3-0. The scores of the match were 30-23, 30-19 and 30-18. B-W is now 12-2 overall. With its loss, Otterbein fell to 10-3 overall.
In beating Otterbein, junior two-time All-OAC middle hitter Cassie Palmer (Greenwich/ South Central High School) led the offense with 16 kills and junior outside hitter Emily Bowen (Tiffin Columbian H.S.) had 15 kills and senior Academic All-OAC player Sarah Gordon (Wooster Senior H.S.) had 11 kills. Junior All-OAC setter Kerry Helm (Luckey/ Eastwood H.S.) also had 40 assists and now has 1,975 for her career and remains fourth all-time in school history. Defensively, Gordon had the most digs with 21 and was followed by senior All-OAC libero Kate Kost (Fairview Park H.S.) with 18. Kost now has 1,687 career digs and is just seven shy of tying Regan Pore's (1997-2000) all-time school mark of 1,694. Sophomore middle hitter Laura Leach (Norwalk H.S.) had the most blocks with four.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action next weekend when they travel to San Antonio, Texas to compete at the Trinity University Invitational Tournament on September 27-28. At Trinity, B-W will open play against seventh-ranked Trinity on Friday afternoon.
