Volleyball Earns Eighth Straight Win, Defeating John Carroll, 3-0
BEREA, OHIO -- The 15th-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team improved to 24-4 overall and 6-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference with a 3-0 victory over John Carroll University today in University Heights, Ohio. The scores of the games were 30-20, 30-21 and 30-25. The victory was the eighth straight for B-W.
Leading the way for the Yellow Jacket offense was sophomore middle hitter Laura Leach (Norwalk/ Senior H.S.) with a career-high16 kills. She was followed by junior Emily Bowen (Tiffin/ Columbian) with 14 kills and senior outside hitter Sarah Gordon (Wooster/ Senior H.S.) with 13. With Gordon's 13 kills tonight, she passed the 1,000-kill plateau and now has 1,002. Setting up the offense was junior All-OAC setter Kerry Helm (Luckey/ Eastwood H.S.) as she had 55 assists.
On defense, senior All-OAC libero Kate Kost (Fairview Park/ Fairview H.S.) led the way with 26 defensive digs. With her performance tonight, Kost became the first player in school history to pass the 2,000-dig mark and has 2,003. Her 26 digs also give her 575 this year and breaks her own school single-season record of 572 which she set in 2000.
B-W will next be in action on Tuesday, October 29, when it plays its last scheduled home game for the season against OAC foe Capital University in an OAC match at 7:00 p.m. at the Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea.
