Baldwin-Wallace College Volleyball Team Falls to Marietta College, 3-2, In OAC Match

MARIETTA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team falls to Marietta College, 3-2 tonight (Friday, September 30, 2011) in an Ohio Athletic Conference match in the Ban Johnson Arena.
With the Loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 12-9 overall and 1-1 in the OAC, while Marietta improves to 9-10 and 2-1 in the OAC.
Marietta outlasted B-W 3-2, by scores of 22-25, 28-26, 25-20, 14-25, and 15-12.
The Yellow Jackets were led offensively by junior middle hitter Rachel Switalski (North Royalton/ Parma Heights Holy Name) as she recorded 15 kills. She was followed by junior outside hitter Amanda Sawicki (Mentor/ Lake Catholic) with 13. The offense was set up by junior setter Jessica Stitts (Eastlake/ North) with 40 set assists.
The defense was led by junior defensive specialist Natalie Emmons (Ashland) and sophomore defensive specialist Taylor Burns (Tiffin/ Fostoria St. Wendelin) with 23 digs a piece. They were followed by a trio of Yellow Jackets including Stitts and freshman Kayse Schmucker (Kent/ Roosevelt) who each recorded 17, and sophomore Shannon Deleur (Olmsted Falls) tallied 16.
The Yellow Jackets will remain on the road when it travels to nearby Oberlin to face the Yeowomen of Oberlin College on Wednesday, October 5 in a non-conference match at 7:00 p.m. The Yellow Jackets will return to the friendly confines of the Ursprung Gymnasium on Tuesday, October 11 when they play host to Heidelberg University in an OAC match at 7:00 p.m.
