Baldwin-Wallace Sweeps Two Matches at Mount St. Joseph Classic
CINCINNATI, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team swept its two matches today (Saturday, September 29, 2007) at the College of Mount St. Joseph Classic in Cincinnati, Ohio as it defeated Ohio Athletic Conference foe Heidelberg College, 3-1, and Mount St. Joseph, 3-2.
With the sweep the Yellow Jackets improve their record to 11-9 overall.
In the first match, the Yellow Jackets defeated the Student Princes by the scores of 30-27, 32-34, 30-21 and 30-23. Offensively B-W was led by senior outside hitter Kelsey Hills (Toledo/St. Ursula Academy) with 23 kills and 31 digs. Junior middle hitter Maria DePeters (Williamsville, N.Y./Mount St. Mary Academy) contributed 22 kills. Freshman setter Casey Passen (Ashville/Teays Valley) had 60 set assists and 10 digs. Defensively senior libero Meggie Marten (Bowling Green) had 22 digs.
In the second match against the Yellow Jackets defeated the Lions the scores 30-21, 25-30, 27-30, 30-19 and 15-12. Hills led the offense with 29 kills and 15 digs. DePeters had 22 kills and six digs while Passen had 56 assists and eight digs. Marten led the defense again with 25 digs.
Hills was named to the All-Tournament Team for her play in the tournament.
B-W returns to action on Tuesday (Oct. 2) when it travels to Tiffin, Ohio for a 7:00 match with Heidelberg.
