Baldwin-Wallace College Volleyball Team Defeats Marietta, 3-1, to Improve to 14-11 Overall
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team defeated Marietta College, 3-1, today (Saturday, October 13, 2007) in an Ohio Athletic Conference match on Fenton Court at the Ban Johnson Arena in Marietta, Ohio.
The Yellow Jackets defeated the Pioneers by the scores of 22-30, 30-19, 30-20 and 31-29 to improve to 14-11 overall and 3-3 in the OAC. With its loss, Marietta falls to 12-10 overall and 2-3 in the OAC.
The front wall was led by senior three-time All-OAC and Academic All-OAC outside hitter Kelsey Hills (Toledo/ St. Ursula Academy), this week’s OAC Player of the Week, with 21 kills. Hills also had 10 digs, five blocks, two service aces and one set assist.
In addition to Hills on the front line, junior middle hitter/ blocker Maria DePeters (Buffalo, N.Y./ Mt. St. Mary’s Academy) had 18 kills, four blocks, and senior rightside player Betsy Gilbert (Mansfield/ Madison) had nine kills and a team-leading six blocks.
The offense was paced by freshman setter Casey Passen (Ashville/ Teays Valley) with 47 assists. She also had eight digs. The defense was led by senior libero Meggie Marten (Bowling Green) with 21 digs and freshman defensive specialist Melissa “Lissy” Grame (Berea) had 12.
The B-W women are back in action on Tuesday, October 16 when they host OAC rival Otterbein College in the Lou Higgins Center and the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m.
