Baldwin-Wallace Volleyball Team Defeats Cross-town Rival John Carroll, 3-0, on Seniors' Night

BEREA, OHIO --  The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team defeated Cleveland cross-town and Ohio Athletic Converence rival John Carroll Univeristy, 3-0, tonight (Tuesday, October 23, 2007) on Seniors' Night at the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea.  B-W won by the scores of 30-23, 30-17 and 30-23.

With the win, Baldwin-Wallace improves to 17-11 overall and 6-3 in the OAC, while John Carroll falls to 11-16 overall and 2-5 in the OAC. 

The Yellow Jackets were led offensively by junior middle hitter Maria DePeters (Williamsville, N.Y./Mount St. Mary Academy) with 16 kills and four blocks.  Senior All-OAC outside hitter Kelsey Hills (Toledo/St. Ursula Academy) finished with 15 kills and freshman setter Casey Passen (Ashville/Teays Valley) totaled 47 set assists. 

Defensively, B-W was led by senior three-year starting libero Meggie Marten (Bowling Green) with a team-high 20 digs and followed by Hills with 13  and  freshman defensive specialist Melissa Grame (Berea) with 11.

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Friday (Oct. 26) when they travel to Atlanta, Ga. to play in the first day of the Emory University National Invitational.  They will play Birmingham-Southern (Ala.) College at 2:00 p.m. and Randolph-Macon (Va.) College at 4:30 p.m.
