Baldwin-Wallace College Volleyball Team Splits a Pair of Matches at the Hiram College Tri-Match

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team split a pair of matches today (Saturday, September 22, 2007) at the annual Hiram College Tri-Match in Hiram, Ohio. In its first match, the Yellow Jackets lost to the College of Mount St. Joseph, 3-1, and then defeated Ohio Wesleyan University, 3-0, in the nightcap.

In the match versus Mt. St. Joseph, B-W lost, 16-30, 32-30, 30-28 and 30-24. In beating OWU, the Jackets’ won by the scores of 30-21, 30-18 and 30-23.

Despite the loss to MSJ, the front wall was led by senior three-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference outside hitter Kelsey Hills (Toledo/ St. Ursula Academy) had 20 kills, nine digs and four blocks. In addition, junior middle hitter/ blocker Maria DePeters (Williamsville/ Buffalo St. Mary’s Academy) had 15 kills and three blocks and freshman outside hitter Rebecca Pittenger (Alliance/ Senior) had six kills and nine digs.

The offense was led by freshman setter Casey Passen (Ashville/ Teays Valley) had 48 set assists and 13 digs. Defensively, senior libero Meggie Marten (Bowling Green) had 30 digs and freshman Melissa Grame (Berea) had 10.

In the victory versus Ohio Wesleyan, DePeters had the most kills with 21 and blocks with two. Hills had 11 kills and 12 digs and Pittenger had eight kills and 10 digs. Passen led the offense with 38 assists and 10 digs. Marten led the defense with 17 digs.

The B-W women are back in action on Tuesday when they open Ohio Athletic Conference play when they host Mount Union College at the Lou Higgins Center and in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymansium at 7:00 p.m. Next Friday and Saturday, Sept. 28-29, B-W will travel to Cincinnati to play at the Mt. St. Joseph Tournament.
