Baldwin-Wallace College Spilts on Second Day of Marcia French Memorial Tournament
BEREA, OHIO – The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team split their two matches during the second day of the Marcia French Memorial Tournament in the Ursprung Gymnasium, in Berea, Ohio. B-W fell, 3-1, to Denison University, but defeated La Roche (Pa.) College, 3-0.
In the first match of the day, B-W lost to Denison, 30-28, 30-28, 22-30 and 30-21. Offensively, B-W was led by junior middle hitter Maria DePeters (Williamsville, N.Y./Mount St .Mary Academy) and senior outside hitter Kelsey Hills (Sylvania/Toledo St. Ursula Academy). Freshman setter Casey Passen (Ashville/Teays Valley) had 43 assists for the Yellow Jackets. Defensively, B-W was led by senior libero Meggie Marten (Bowling Green) with 22 digs.
In the second match of the day, B-W defeated La Roche 30-15, 30-14 and 30-16. All 14 players saw action in the match and Hills and DePeters had 13 and 10 kills respectively. Passen had 18 assists and fellow freshman setter Nicole Bates (Elyria/Senior) had 11 assists for the Yellow Jackets. Marten again led the Yellow Jacket defense with 15 digs while freshman defensive specialist Melissa Grame (Berea) had 10 digs.
At the conclusion of the tournament Marten was named to the All-Tournament Team.
B-W will return to action on Wednesday, September 12 when it travels to University Circle for a 7:00 p.m. match with Case Western Reserve University.
