BEREA, OHIO-- The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team won the Marcia French Memorial Tournament with a convincing 3-1 win over Saint Mary's (Ind.) College. The Yellow Jackets improve to 7-1 overall, while Saint Mary's falls to 8-2.
The Yellow Jackets won the match 3-1, ( 30-27, 16-30, 30-19, 30-28). Sophomore Maria DePeters (Williamsville N.Y./Mt. St. Mary Academy) led the offensive charge with 13 kills, followed by junior All-Ohio Athletics Conference outside hitter Kelsey Hills (Toledo/St. Ursula Academy) with 11 and sophomore Rachel Selgo ( Grand Rapids, MI/ West Catholic) with nine. Freshman Vicky Benedejcic (Chardon) recorded four service aces to lead the team. Senior All-American setter Angie Camp (Norwalk/St. Paul) added a match-high 34 set-assists.
Defensively, the Yellow Jackets were led by junior Meggie Marten (Bowling Green) with 26 digs, followed by Hills with 15. DePeters led the team in total blocks with six, followed by Hills and sophomore Brooke Hinkle (Wellington) both with four.
To conclude the tournament, Camp, Hills and Marten were named to the All-Tournament team for their efforts.
The Yellow Jackets next match will be September 13th against cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University in the Ursprung Gynasium. The match will begin at 7:00 p.m.
