Palmer.jpgBEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball player and senior middle hitter Cassie Palmer (Greenwich/South Central) has been selected to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Great Lakes Region team for the third time in her four-year career.

Palmer was an All-Region selection last year and also as a sophomore in 2001.  “Cassie is the most dominant middle to ever play at B-W.” said Head Coach Vicki Brault.  “She is one of the best middles in the nation and has helped elevate B-W volleyball to be a top contender for four years in the OAC and compete with the best in the nation."  To view the complete list of AVCA All-Region Teams, please click here.

Cassie Palmer has made an immediate impact on the volleyball team since her freshman season.  She helped the Yellow Jackets in 2000 to a 25-10 overall record, the OAC Tournament title and a spot in the NCAA Division III National Tournament in the Great Lakes Regional.   Individually, Cassie was second on the team in kills with 351, second with 120 total blocks, including a team-leading 41 solo blocks.  She had a .270 hitting percentage to rank third among regulars.  She also had 54 defensive digs, five set assists and one service ace.  For her efforts, she was named as an honorable mention All-OAC player and earned the OAC "Rookie of the Year" award.

Two years ago, Cassie helped B-W  to a 29-6 overall record and a share of the OAC regular-season title for the first time in school history.  Individually, she led the team with 425 kills, a .324 hitting percentage and 164 total blocks, including 52 solo blocks.  Cassie ranked second in blocks per game in the OAC, third in hitting percentage and eighth in kills per game.

As a junior in 2002, Cassie was named to the All-OAC first team for the second straight season.  She led the team in kills with 467 and was second with 41 service aces.

Palmer finished with a school career-record 1,830 kills and 573 total blocks, including 211 solo blocks. Her 211 solo blocks ranks second all-time. In addition, Palmer had 95 career service aces to rank eighth. For her efforts, she was named to the All-OAC First-Team for the third consecutive year.   She was also selected to the Academic All-OAC team for the second time in her career.

Palmer and the Yellow Jackets finished the season 18-16 overall and tied for first place in the Ohio Athletic Conference with Ohio Northern and Capital with an 8-1 record.  B-W also played 12 of the top 25 teams in the country including defending NCAA Division III National Champion Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Overall, Palmer was one of three other seniors (Angie Elser, Kerry Helm and Emily Bowen) to finish their careers with 100 or more wins.  It is the first time that a senior class has won 100 or more games in B-W history.  The senior quartet finished with 102 victories and an overall mark of 102-37.
