The Baldwin-Wallace College Volleyball Team Defeats Mount Union, 3-1,
to Advance to the 2005 OAC Championship Game
BEREA, OHIO — The second-seeded Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team defeated sixth-seeded Mount Union College, 3-1 tonight (Friday, November 4) to advance to the 2005 Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Game hosted by Ohio Northern University in Ada.
With its win, B-W improves to 22-11 overall and defeated the Purple Raiders for the third time this season. The Yellow Jackets won by the scores of 30-21, 17-30, 30-28, 30-21. With its loss, Mount Union ends its season 16-14 overall. B-W advances to the OAC Tournament Championship game for the eighth time in school history. B-W's only tournament title came during the 2000 season.
Sophomore All-OAC outside hitter Kelsey Hills (Toledo/ St. Ursula Academy) and freshman outside hitter Rachel Selgo (Grand Rapids, Mich./ West Catholic) led the B-W offense with 13 kills each. Freshman middle hitter Maria DePeters (Williamsville, N.Y./ Mount St. Mary Academy) had a team-high three service aces and Hills was second with two. Junior Angie Camp (Norwalk/ St. Paul) set up the offense with a team-best 41 set assists.
Defensively, Hills recorded 22 digs to lead B-W. Senior All-OAC right-side player Emily Albanese (Mentor) was second on the team with 16. Selgo had 15 digs and sophomore libero Meggie Marten (Bowling Green/ Senior) added 14.
B-W will play fourth-seeded Capital University tomorrow (Nov. 5) in the OAC Tournament Championship game at Ohio Northern at 2:00 p.m. The winner will receive an automatic bid to the 2005 NCAA Division III National Tournament.
