The Baldwin-Wallace Volleyball Team Defeats Marietta College, 3-1, at Marietta
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Marietta, 3-1, in Marietta.
With the win, the Yellow Jackets improved to 16-7 overall and 5-0 in the OAC. With its loss, Marietta is now 5-13 overall and 1-5 in the OAC. B-W won with scores of 28-30, 30-24, 30-28, 30-21
Leading the way for the Yellow Jackets offensively were senior All-OAC Emily Albanese (Mentor) and freshman outside hitter Rachel Selgo (Grand Rapids, Mich./ West Catholic) both recording a total of 18 kills. Albanese and Selgo were followed by sophomore All-OAC Kelsey Hills (Toledo/ St. Ursula Academy) and freshman middle hitter Maria DePeters (Buffalo, N.Y./ Mount St. Mary Academy) both recording 10 kills. Leading the team in service aces was sophomore libaro Maggie Marten (Bowling Green/ Senior) with three. Marten was followed by Albanese with two service aces. Rounding out the offense for the Yellow Jackets was junior Angie Camp (Norwalk/ St. Paul) recording a stellar 57 set assists.
On defense Marten led the team with 22 digs, followed by Camp with 21, Selgo with 17, and Hills with 17. Freshman middle hitter Brooke Hinkle (Wellington) led the team in blocking with 10 total blocks ( five solo and five assists), followed by Albanese, Hills, and DePeters all with three total blocks.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Tuesday, October 18 when they host to OAC rival Ohio Northern in the Ursprung Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m. They will follow-up that game with another home game against Capital University on Thursday, October 21, also starting at 7:00 p.m in Ursprung Gymnasium.
