Women's Volleyball Defeats Gustavus Adolphus College and Improves Their
Tournament Record to 2-0
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team captured their second win with a 4-1 victory yesterday after noon (Sept. 2) against Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) College in the second match of the two-day Pacific University Tournament in Forest Grove, Oregon. The Yellow Jackets will play two more matches today.
The Yellow Jackets beat Gustavus Adolphus by the scores of 20-30, 30-22, 30-22, and 30-24.
Leading the way in victory, junior setter Angie Campe (Norwalk/ St. Paul) by hitting .444, including four kills, in addition to 44 set assists, 14 digs, three service aces, and one block.
In an all-around strong team showing, many contributed to the BW win. Sophomore outside hitter Kelsey Hills (Toledo/ St. Ursula Academy), had 14 kills, two digs, and one block. Senior All-OAC rightside player Emily Albanese (Mentor) had the second highest hitting average of .276, with 12 kills, 13 digs, and one block. Freshman outside hitter Rachel Selgo (Grand Rapid, MI/ West Catholic) recorded 11 kills, 14 digs, one service ace, and one block. Sophomore libero Meggie Marten (Bowling Green) led the team with 24 digs, and also recorded three service aces. Sophomore defensive specialist Toni Ward (Mogadove/ Field) also contributed 11 digs and middle hitter Maria DePeters (Buffalo, N.Y./ Mount St. Mary Academy) had seven kills, five digs and one block.
Today, the Yellow Jackets will play two matches to end their two-day and four-match stay at Pacific. B-W will return to Berea on Sunday and begin to prepare to open its home schedule on Wednesday, Sept. 7 by hosting nonleague rival Hiram College at the Ursprung Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m. Next weekend, B-W will host the annual Marcia French memorial Volleyball Tournament in the Ursprung Gymnasium on Sept. 9-10.
