The Baldwin-Wallace College Volleyball Team Captures Their First Victory
at the 2005 Wittenberg Fall Classic Against Alma (Mich.) College, 3-0
SPRINGFIELD, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team captured its first victory today (Oct. 28) at the 2005 Wittenberg Fall Classic against Alma (Mich.) College, 3-0.
With the win the Yellow Jackets improve to 19-9 overall and 1-0 in tournament play, while Alma drops to 12-16 overall and 0-1 in tournament play. B-W won by scores of 30-18, 30-17, and 30-17.
Leading the Yellow Jackets in offensive play were senior All-OAC rightside hitter Emily Albanese (Mentor) and freshman outside hitter Rachel Selgo (Grand Rapids, Mich./ West Catholic), who both recorded 11 kills. Following Albanese and Selgo in kills was sophomore All-OAC outside hitter Kelsey Hills (Toledo/ St. Ursula Academy) with nine. Junior setter Angie Camp (Norwalk/ St. Paul) recorded 34 set assists for the night. Sophomore libero Meggie Marten (Bowling Green/ Senior) led the team in service aces with five, followed by Hills with four and freshman middle hitter Maria DePeters (Buffalo, N.Y./ Mt. Saint Mary Academy) with three.
Defensively, Camp led the team in total blocks with eight (seven solo and one assist), followed by DePeters with seven (one solo and six assists). Leading the team in digs was Marten with 19 and was followed by Hills with 16.
The Yellow Jackets continue their tournament play tonight (Oct. 28) when they play Carthage (Wisc.) College at 6:30 p.m. They willl resume play again on Saturday, Oct. 29 when they play host Wittenberg University at 11:30 a.m. followed by a 3:30 p.m. game against The College of Wooster.
