Baldwin-Wallace College Vollleyball Team Upsets No.8 Nationallly-Ranked
University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, 3-0, on First Day of Marcia French Tournament
BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team upset No. 8 nationally-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, 3-0 (30-22, 30-27, 30-19), in the second game of the first day of the annual Marcia French Tournament tonight (Friday, Sept. 9) at the Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea.
With the win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 5-2 for the season.
Sophomore Kelsey Hills (Toledo/ St. Ursula Academy) and freshman Rachel Selgo (Grand Rapids, Mich./ Mount St. Mary Academy) led the Yellow Jacket offensive attack. Hills recorded 13 kills while Selgo recorded 12 kills and two service aces. Also contributing to the win was junior Angie Camp (Norwalk/ St. Paul), who recorded 34 set assists and one service ace.
Leading the defensive battle was sophomore Maggie Martin (Bowling Green/ Senior) with 20 digs, followed by Camp with 10, Selgo with 10, and sophomore Toni Ward (Mogadore/ Field) with 10.
The Yellow Jacket return to action tomorrow (Sept. 10) when they continue on in the second day of play in the Eight Annual Marcia French yellow Jacket Memorial Invitational, held in the Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea, Ohio. Their first game will begin at 10:00 a.m. when they play Hope (Mich.) College. Following that game they will then play in the championship rounds starting at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
