The Baldwin-Wallace Volleyball Team Captures A Win Against Muskingum
College, Improving Their OAC Reocrd to 6-2
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team defeated Muskingum College in a home Ohio Athletic Conference game today 3-0.
With its win, B-W improves their overall record to 19-8 and their OAC record to 6-2. With its loss, Muskingum falls to 14-10 overall with a record of 3-4 in the OAC.
The Yellow Jackets played a strong three matches starting out with a 5-0 run in the first match and then continuing on to win the first game 30-25. They then continued on to win the next two matchs 30-18 and 30-26.
Senior two-time All-OAC middle hitter Laura Leach (Norwalk) recorded 18 kills in the game making her the team leader and also giving her a .457 hitting percentage. Following Leach in kills was junior Emily Albanese (Norwalk) with 12 and freshman Kelsey Hills (Toledo/ St. Ursula Academy) with 11. Hills recorded a .550 hitting percent for the game. Sophomore setter Kristin Habegger (Oregon) played a strong game for B-W recording 44 set assests, 3 kills and 12 digs, hitting a .400 percent for game.
Sophomore libero Kim Stoll (Norwalk) led the team with 28 digs followed by Albanese with 21. Albanese also recorded 4 solo blocks followed by Hills with 2.
The Yellow Jacket will be back in action this Tuesday, October 26 when play their final OAC regular conference game against Heidelberg. The match is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium. This game will also be Seniors' and Parents' night.
After 27 matches, Leach leads the team with 474 kills and 69 blocks. She is has a .350 ovreall hitting average. Albanese, a strong overall player, leads the team in service aces with 45 and has also recorded 267 kills for an overall hitting average of .246. On the deffensive side of the game, she has also recorded 480 digs and 42 blocks. Stoll, who is currently on pace to break her own school single-season record for digs, tops the team with 663.
The 2004 OAC Tournament begins on Tuesday, November 2 and the OAC Final Four is set for Friday and Saturday, Nov. 5-6.
