Baldwin-Wallace Claims Third Place in the Marcia French Invitational
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team finished the Marcia French Memorial Tournament strong with two wins and claiming third place. They started out the second day of the tournament by defeating Kenyon College in straight games and then continued on in the championship round and defeated Kalamazoo (Mich) College, also in straight games, to seal their third place prize.
In their first game of the day, the Yellow Jackets hit the court hard defeating Kenyon (30-17, 30-24, 30-26). Freshman Kelsey Hills (Toledo/ St. Ursula Academy) led the team in kills with 18 followed by senior middle hitter Laura Leach (Norwalk/ Senior) with 13. Freshman setter Nicole Igarashi (Eastlake/ North) recorded 46 set assists. Libero sophomore Kim Stoll (Norwalk/ St. Paul) led B-W in defensive digs with 22 followed by senior Kari Kuhn (Amherst/ Steele) with 14, and junior Emily Albanese (Mentor) with 13.
Determined to claim another vicotry on their home court, B-W started strong and finished victorious winning their set against Kalamazoo (30-19, 30-25, 30-27). Leading the Yellow Jakets in kills was Leech with 16 followed by Hills with 10. The teams leader in set assists was Igarashi with 37. Well on her way to possibly setting more conference and school records in digs, Stoll led the team with 27.
B-W also had two team members, Leech and Hills, awarded with All-Tournament Honors.
B-W will contine their season with a home game against Case Western Reserve Univerisity on Wednesday, September 15 at 7:00 p.m.
