The Baldwin-Wallace College Volleyball Team Defeats Heidelberg, 3-1, to Clinch

Second Place in the Upcoming OAC Tournament

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Heidelberg College, 3-1, tonight (October 26) on Seniors' Night at the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea and clinched second place in the upcoming (November 2-6) OAC Tournament. The scores of the match were 30-27, 30-28, 29-31 and 30-28.

With its victory, B-W improved to 19-9 overall and ends its OAC regular season at 7-2. With its loss, Heidelberg fell to 20-12 overall and 5-4 in the OAC. In addition to the volleyball match, B-W honored its Head Coach, Vicki Brault, between the second and third games with a plaque commemorating her 200th victory at the College on October 16 (a 3-0 win versus Marietta College).

Offensively, senior two-time All-OAC middle hitter Laura Leach (Norwalk/ Senior), one of two Yellow Jacket seniors to be honored prior to the game, led the way on the front line with 22 kills and one block. The 22 kills gives Leach 496 this season which is third all-time at B-W in a single season.

In addition to Leach, freshman outside hitter Kelsey Hills (Toledo/ St. Ursula) had 19 kills and junior rightside player Emily Albanese (Mentor) had 15 kills, one block and 20 defensive digs.

The Yellow Jacket offense was setup by the duo of sophomore setter Kristin Habegger (Oregon/ Clay) and freshman Nicole Igarashi (Willowick/ Eastlake North). Habegger had 19 set assists and four digs and Igarashi had 41 assists and 13 digs. Freshman Meggie Martin (Bowling Green) led the way with four service aces followed by senior defensive specialist Kari Kuhn (Amherst/ Marion Steele), the other senior to be honored prior to the game, with three.

On defense, sophomore libero Kim Stoll (Norwalk St. Paul) led the team with 37 digs. Also, Kuhn had 15 digs. Martin also contributed 24 digs to the team total of 133.

The win for Vicki Brault was the 202nd of her B-W career and her 272nd overall. In 10 years at B-W, Brault is 202-124 and for her 14-year career, she is now 272-174.

B-W will be back in action onFriday and Saturday, October 29-30 when it travels to Whitewater, Wisconsin to participate in the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater Invitational Tournament. The Yellow Jackets will also host a first round OAC Tournament game on Tuesday, November 2 at Ursprung with its opponent to be named. Game time on Nov. 2 is 7:00 p.m.
