Yellow Jackets split a pair of games on first day of Wittenberg Invitational

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team split a pair of games defeating Allegheny (Pa.) College, 3-0, in the nightcap and losing to Defiance College, 3-0, in the first game on day one of the Wittenberg Invitational.

In the early game, B-W lost in straight sets (30-25, 30-25, 30-23) to Defiance.  Senior middle hitter Laura Leach (Norwalk/ Senior) led the Yellow Jackets with 15 kills followed by junior Emily Albanese (Mentor) with 10.  Freshman Nicole Igarashi (Eastlake/ North) continues to lead the team in set assists adding 33 more to her season total.  She also led the team in service aces with three.  Sophomore libero Kim Stoll (Norwalk/ St.Paul) led five B-W players in double figures in digs with 30. 

In the nightcap, the Yellow Jackets defeated Allegheny (Pa.) in straight sets (30-12, 32-30, 30-25) to pick up the split.  Leach led the way again with 24 kills followed by Albanese and freshman Kelsey Hills (Toledo/ St. Ursula Academy) with 13 each.  Igarashi led the team in set assists with 50, while Stoll and freshman Meggie Marten (Bowling Green/ Senior) tied with a team-leading 16 digs. 

B-W is now 11-3 for the season, while Defiance improved to 9-3 and Allegheny (Pa.) fell to 4-9 overall.

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action tomorrow (Sept. 25) agianst Calvin (Mich.) College at 9:30 a.m. and will conclude the Wittenberg Invitational against against host school Wittenberg University at 3:30 p.m.
