The Baldwin-Wallace College Volleyball Team Defeats Capital, 3-1, to
Advance to the OAC Tournament Championship Game
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Capital University, 3-1, tonight (November 5) at the ONU Sports Center in Ada. The scores of the match were 30-25, 30-27, 23-30 and 30-23. With the win, the Yellow Jackets will advance to the OAC Championship game tomorrow, Saturday, November 5-6.
B-W improved to 22-12 overall while Capital ends its season with a 25-9 record.
The Yellow Jackets advanced to the OAC Tournament Championship game for the seventh time in school history including one championship and five runner-up finishes.
Offensively, senior two-time All-OAC middle hitter Laura Leach (Norwalk/ Senior), led the way on the front line with 22 kills followed by junior Emily Albanese (Mentor) with 19 and freshman Kelsey Hills (Toledo/ St. Ursula Academy). The 22 kills gives Leach 605 this season which is second all-time at B-W in a single season. Leach is 31 kills shy of the single-season school-record of 636 set last year by All-American Cassie Palmer '04.
The Yellow Jacket offense was setup by sophomore setter Kristin Habegger (Oregon/ Clay) who had 55 set assists.
On defense, sophomore libero Kim Stoll (Norwalk St. Paul) and freshman Meggie Marten (Bowling Green/ Senior) both had a team-leading 25 digs. Also, Albanese added 16 digs and and senior defensive specialist Kari Kuhn (Amherst/ Steele) recorded 15.
Capital was led offensely by Brittany Heppner's 22 kills. Ann Reed set up the offense with 47 set assists. Defensively, Heppner had a team-leading 31 digs followed by Karen Dotsen with 23.
B-W will play the winner of the Ohio Northern vs. Mount Union game tomorrow, Saturday, November 6 at 2:00 p.m. in Ada.
