Nick Minerd Joins Baldwin-Wallace College Sports Information Staff
Nick Minerd, a 2007 graduate of Mount Union College, has been named as the new Assistant Sports Information Director at Baldwin-Wallace College. Minerd replaces Cory Blackson, who spent two years at B-W and is currently a candidate for the Head SID job at Thomas More (Ky.) College.
Minerd, a native of Youngstown, Ohio and a graduate of Campbell Memorial High School, served as a student assistant in the SID office at Mt. Union for four years under the tutledge of Michael DeMatteis. Following graduation, Minerd served as the Assistant SID at Allegheny (Pa.) College for six months before being promoted to Interim SID last winter.
"Nick is an outstanding young man with a great deal of talent and ability," said B-W Sports Information Director Kevin Ruple. "He has gained a wealth of experience at two very strong NCAA Division III institutions who value its athletics programs similarly to B-W.
"At Mt. Union, Nick gained valuable experience under Mike DeMatteis, including the opportunity to work with the nationally-renown Purple Raider football program. At Allegheny, he worked under Bill Salyer and when Bill left for a better opportunity, Nick was promoted to interim director.
"At B-W, Nick will work directly with me to publicize our 21 varsity sports," said Ruple, who has served as SID at B-W for the past 25 years. "He has experience working with and training student assistants, and that is a very important part of what we do at B-W. I look forward to Nick beginning his work at B-W and know that he will be an outstanding asset to our office and the College."
Minerd begins work at B-W on Monday, August 25 and can be reached by telephone at 440-826-2780 or 2327. His e-mail is not active to date but will be nminerd@bw.edu.
