Twinsburg, OH -- Baldwin-Wallace junior swimmer Kristen Showalter (Bowling Green) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Scholar-Athlete of the Month for the month of January.

As a freshman, she captured OAC individual titles in 200 and 500 free and swam on three winning relay teams, including the OAC record-setting 400-yard medley relay team.  As a sophomore, she won an individual crown in the 200-yard butterfly and swam on the winning 440-yard medley relay team. Showalter has also earned All-OAC 10 times overall, including four times on relay teams.

In addition to being an outstanding student and swimmer, Showalter is involved on campus as a Resident Assistant, as a Student Ambassador in the Alumni House, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and voluteered during the B-W Student-Athlete Day of Service in the Community. She also volunteered time to raise money for the 2003 B-W Dance Marathon which benefits the pediatric aids foundation and helped the swim team to collect 410 pounds of food for the Cleveland Food Bank for the holiday season in 2003-2004. She also served as a student assistant in the B-W sports information office in 2002-2003."

Kristen is an outstanding young woman and a leader on our swimming team in every way," said Yellow Jacket Head Swim Coach Mike Gallagher. "She has been a key swimmer for us the past three years and was a large factor when we won the OAC title two years ago."

"Kristen is an outstanding student and student leader," said Gallagher. "That extends into the pool where she is a role model for our younger swimmers and divers. She represents Baldwin-Wallace College in the true sense of the term student-athlete."
