Yellow Jacket Swimmers and Divers Both Fall at W & J

BEREA, OHIO -- With limited squads due to Greek pledging on campus, the Baldwin-Wallace College men's and women's swimming and diving teams traveled to Washington, Pennsylvania and Washington & Jefferson College and were defeated by the Presidents on Friday, January 23. The men lost by a score of 129-93 and the women were beaten, 132-107.

With the losses, the Yellow Jacket women enter Saturday's (Jan. 24) Meet against Ohio Athletic Conference rival Ohio Northern Univesity at 7-5 overall. The Yellow Jacjet women are also a perfect 3-0 in the OAC. The women can clinch their second-ever OAC unbeaten regular season with a win versus the Polar Bears. With its loss to W & J, the B-W men fell to 6-5 overall. They are 2-1 in the OAC.

Despite the losses at W & J, the women were paced by individual wins by sophomore Emily Wood (Carrollton) in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.45 seconds, junior Kristen Showalter (Bowling Green) in the 100 free in 57.47 seconds, senior Maryanda Yocum (Canal Winchester/ Pickerington) in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:03.59, sophomore Stephanie Zurca (Aurora/ Twinsburg Senior) in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:15.20 and the 200-yard free relay team of sophomore Mary Dye (Twinsburg Senior), Wood, Showalter and Yocum won in 1:46.33.

For the Yellow Jacket men, freshman D.J. Mosiniak (Toledo/ St. Francis DeSales) won the 50-yard free in 23.07 seconds, freshman Chris Rochford (Berea) won the 3-meter diving event with 182.95 points and the 200 free relay team of junior Keith DeVore (Mansfield Ontario), Mosiniak, senior Scott Roberts (Sandusky/Perkins) and freshman Luke Grilli (Londonderry, N.H./ Londonderry) in 1:33.79.

Following its meet versus ONU, B-W will then face Westminster (Pa.) College at home on Saturday, January 31 in its final regular season meet. The 2004 OAC Championship Meet will take place at Case Western Reserve University from Thursday, February 12 through Saturday, February 14.
