The Baldwin-Wallace Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Teams Defeat Wilmington College

BEREA, OHIO -- Both the Baldwin-Wallace College men's and women's swimming teams defeated Wilmington College today (November 6) in an Ohio Athletic Conference meet in Wilmington.  The women defeated the Quakers 121-72 and the men won 121-79.

Starting off the meet strong the Yellow Jacket won the 200-meter medley women's relay with team members sophomore Sarah Anders (North Ridgeville), junior Stephanie Zurca (Twinsburg), sophomore Sara Gombash (Perrysburg/Toledo Notre Dame), and junior Mary Dye (Twinsburg/ Senior) in a time of 2:13.02. To continue the meet, freshman Erica Brubach (Powell/ Olentangy) won the 800-meter freestyle in 10:23.16. Senior Kristen Showalter (Bowling Green) swam to a win in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 2:19.10 and then came back later in the meet to win the 100-meter freestyle in a time of 1:03.91. Relay member Gombash, contributed multiple wins in the 200-meter individual medley (2:42.38) and in the 100-meter butterfly (1:11.89). Anders, also another relay member, won the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:12.81. Contributing the last win of the meet for the Yellow Jackets was junior Emily Wood (Carrollton) with a win in the 400-meter freestyle (4:58.49).

On the men's side, the Yellow Jacket also started off the meet with a win in the 200-meter medley relay as well which included team members sophomore Alex de la Pena (Elyria/ Catholic), senior Nick Hanna (Napoleon), freshman Jeremy Szabo (Parma), and freshman Jake Saul (Napoleon) in a time of 2:03.67. Saul also raced to a win in the 800-meter freestyle (9:51.50). Sophomore Luke Grilli (Londonberry, N.H./ Londonberry) took home a win in the 200-meter freestyle swimming 2:07.94. Freshman Dave Fournier (Perrysburg) added two individual win for the Yellow Jackets when he won the 50-meter freestyle (25.57) and the 100-meter freestyle (57.65). de la Pena also contributed multiple wins in the 200-meter individual medley (2:21.67) and in the 400-meter freestyle (4:30.60). Freshman Dan DiCicco (Canton/Massillon Perry) won the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:08.57. Hanna, another member of the relay team, won the 100-meter butterfly (1:05.74). 

Baldwin-Wallace men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be in action on Saturday, November 13 at 1:00 PM at Ohio Wesleyan.
