Yellow Jacket Swim and Dive Teams Swept by Ohio Northern

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams were swept by Ohio Athletic Conference rival Ohio Northern University in a dual meet this afternoon (Saturday, January 23, 2010) in the B-W Natatorium in the Lou Higgins Center in Berea.
The Yellow Jacket men lost, 176-66 and the women lost, 184-54. The B-W men fall to 3-9 overall and 1-2 in the OAC, and the women are 0-12 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
For the men, junior four-time All-American diver Todd Richert (North Royalton) placed first in both the one-meter optional dive and in the one-meter voluntary dive scoring totals of 173.65 and 287.80 points, respectively. Junior Matt Diamond (Ashtabula/ Lakeside) placed second in the men’s 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.15 seconds. Also placing second were junior Ryan Musille (Canton/ GlenOak) and sophomore Nic Null (Shelby/Maamsfield St. Peter’s) in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard freestyle with times of 1:04.61 and 50.78 seconds, respectively.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Brian Leffler (Twinsburg), Tony Tijerina (Napoleon), Matthew Zych (Des Plaines, Ill./ Maine West) and Nate Brown (Colunmbia Station/ Olmsted Falls) placed third with a time of 1:38.09.
For the women, freshman Julie Pinter (Broadview Heights/Brecksville Broadview Hts.) placed first in both the optional and voluntary one-meter dives with final scores of 167.40 and 232.00 points, respectivley. Also placing in the voluntary one-meter dive was Erin O’Donnell (Perry) who ranked third with a final score 213.50 points. Freshman Gabby Parker (Girard, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) placed first in the 100-yard free with a final time of 58.98 seconds.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action this Friday, January 29 when they host Allegheny (Pa.) College on Seniors’ Night at 6:00 p.m. in Berea.
