BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's and women's swimming and diving teams both beat Mount Union College today (November 1, 2003) in Alliance, Ohio. The men's score was 126-57, and the women's score was 116-84.
The women started off the meet with a win in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:19.27, which included team members Lisa Fox (Copley) , Stephanie Zurca (Twinsburg) , Sara Gombash (Toledo/Notre Dame) , and Emily Wood (Carrollton) . Senior Carey McDermott (Salem) won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:40.32. Juniors Kristen Showalter (Bowling Green) won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:37.68 and Lisa Fox won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:20.60. Sophomore Emily Wood won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:07.35 and the 100-yard freestyle in :58.62. Freshman Sara Gombash won the 200-yard IM in 2:22.46 and the 200-yard butterfly in 2:17.61. The women also captured the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 4:01.81 with team members Kristen Showalter , sophomore Mary Dye (Twinsburg) , Carey McDermott , and sophomore Ashley House (Lawrenceburg, Ind./East Central).
The men started the meet off with a win in the 400-yard medley relay as well with team members Luke Grilli (Londonderry, N.H.), Keith DeVore (Mansfield), Nick Hanna (Napoleon), a nd DJ Mosiniak (Toledo/DeSales) with a time of 3:49.01. Senior Scott Roberts won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:15.70. DeVore also won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:20.95. Sophomore Nick Hanna won the 200-yard IM in 2:11.99. Freshman Alex de la Peņa (Elyria/Catholic) won the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:56.00) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:16.48), Luke Grilli won the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.42) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:09.87), and DJ Mosiniak won the 50-yard freestyle (:22.45) and the 100-yard freestyle (:51.03).
The Yellow Jacket swimmers and divers will return to action on Wednesday, November 5th when they travel to Oberlin College. The meet will start at 4:30 pm.
