Baldwin-Wallace College Swimmers and Divers Beat Division II Slippery Rock

(Pa.) but Lose to Indiana (Pa.) on Florida Trip

BEREA, OHIO —The Baldwin-Wallace College men's and women's swimming and diving teams split a pair of dual meets today (January 4) on its annual winter break trip to the state of Florida. The meet was held in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

The Yellow Jacket men defeated Slippery Rock, 89-59, and the women also won, 94-54. The men lost to IUP, 90-58, and the women were beaten, 77-71.

Leading the way for the women was freshman Stephanie Markley (Mansfield/ Senior) who won the 50-meter freestyle in 28.64 seconds and swam on the winning 200-meter free relay team that finished first in 2:03.82. Joining Markley on the relay squad were senior Kristen Showalter (Bowling Green), junior Mary Dye (Twinsburg/ Senior) and junior Emily Wood (Carrollton). Also winning individually were junior Stephanie Zurca (Aurora/ Twinsburg) in the 50-meter breaststroke in 37.87 seconds and freshman Ambica Iyengar (INDIA) in the 100-meter freestyle in 1:05.18.

For the men, freshman Dave Fournier (Toledo/ St. John's) led the way as he won the 50-meter free in 25.80 seconds and led off on the winning 200-meter free relay team that captured first place in 1:50.38. In addition, senior Nick Hanna (Napoleon) won the 50-meter butterfly in 28.90 seconds.

The Yellow Jackets return to Berea this weekend and open northern action in the second half of the season on Saturday, January 15 when they host Erie (N.Y.) Community College at the B-W Natatorium in a dual meet at 1:00 p.m.
