BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin-Wallace College men's and women's swimming and diving teams both defeated Ohio Wesleyan University in a dual match at the B-W Natatorium on Saturday, Nov. 15 in Berea, Ohio
The women defeated the Bishops, 140-103, and opened the meet by winning the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:55.88. Team members included junior Lisa Fox (Copley), sophomore Stephanie Zurca (Twinsburg Senior), freshman Sara Gombash (Perrysburg/Notre Dame) and sophomore Mary Dye (Twinsburg/Senior). Individually, junior Kristin Showalter (Bowling Green) won the 200-yard freestyle event in 2:02.42. Freshmen Sara Gombash (Perrysburg/ Toledo Notre Dame) had a big day winning the 200-yard individual medley in 2:18.99 and the 100-yard butterfly in 1:00.42. Her win the 100 fly reset her own B-W school-record for the third time this year with previous record breaking performances at a tri-meet at Cleveland State and also at a meet at Oberlin. In addition to being members of the winning 200-yard medley relay team, Fox won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:04.07 and Zurca won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:12.25. Also, freshman Julie Stancliff (Erie, Pa./ McDowell) won the one-meter diving event with 189.75 points.
The men won the overall event, 150-83, and started the meet by winning the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:40.47 . Team members included freshman Luke Grilli (Londonderry, N.H./ Londonderry), junior Keith DeVore (Mansfield Ontario), senior Scott Roberts (Sandusky/ Perkins) and freshman D.J. Mosiniak (Toledo/ St. Francis DeSales). Individually, Roberts won the 100-yard butterfly in 54.57 seconds, Grilli posted wins in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:54.16 and the 100-yard freestyle (:50.01), DJ Mosiniak won the 50-yard freestyle (:21.99) and the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.39 and freshman Alex de la Pena (Elyria/ Catholic) posted top times in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:47.74) and in the 500-yard freestyle (5:11.21). The Yellow Jacket men also won the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:38.23. Team members included junior Nick Hannah (Napoleon), Alex de la Pena, senior Chris Clukey (Terrace Park/Cincinnati Mariemont) and Keith DeVore.
The Yellow Jacket swimmers and divers will return to action on Saturday, November 22 when they travel to Marshall University for a tri-meet with the Thundering Herd and West Virginia Wesleyan beginning at 1:00 p.m.
