BW Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Teams Compete on Second Day of OAC Championships in Akron

AKRON, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace College men and women's swimming and diving teams competed today (Friday, February 17, 2012) in the second of the three-day Ohio Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships at the Ocasek Natatorium at the University of Akron. The championships are being hosted by Ohio Northern University.

After two days of competition, the Yellow Jacket women stand in fourth place with 237 points and the men are fourth with 205 points.

The women’s team was led by led by Angela Musille (Canton/GlenOak) who finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.38, which sets a new OAC record.

Also for the women four-time NCAA Division III All-American junior diver Julie Pinter (Broadview Heights/ Brecksville-Broadview Hts.) won the 3-meter event with 481.40. And the 200-yard medley relay team consisting of sophomores Emma Gerdes (Avon), Musille, Kayla Miller (Van Wert), and junior Kelsey Richards (Wadsworth). The team finished third overall with a time of 1:51.31. The 800-yard freestyle relay team finished fourth overall with a time of  8:15.46. The team consisted of Gerdes, Musille, and freshmen Carli Dugan (Mentor) and Kayla Eyster (Canton, Mich./Plymouth-Canton). Gerdes also placed third in the 100-yard backstoke in a time of 1:00.27.


The men’s team was led by, junior Tony Tijerina (Defiance/Napoleon) who placed third overall in the 1-meter dive with a score of 396.50.

Also for the men, junior Chris Tuttle (North Royalton) finished fifth overall in the 400-yard IM in a time of 4:25.91. The 200-yard medley relay team consisting of sophomore Ryan Stover (Napoleon), Tijerina, senior Nic Null (Shelby/Mansfield St. Peter’s), and freshman Bryan Gerber (Sagamore Hills /Nordonia). The team finished fourth overall with a time of 1:39.58. Null and Gerber finished sixth and seventh over in the 100-yard breaststroke with times of 1:00.15 and 1:00.82 respectivley.  The 800-yard freestyle relay team finished fourth overall in a time of 7:26.71. The team consisted of Gerber, Tuttle, Stover, and junior Matt Zych (Des Plaines, Ill. /Maine West).

The final day of competition is tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 18 with the preliminaries taking place at 11:00 a.m. and the finals for those events beginning at 6:00 p.m.
