Baldwin-Wallace College Swimming and Diving Teams Both Place Second at the OAC Championship Meet

 BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's swimming and diving teams concluded competition at the 2007 Ohio Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by Ohio Northern University at the University of Akron Ocasek Natatorium in Akron, Ohio. 

The Yellow Jacket men's team finished second behind host Ohio Northern and the women's team placed second, also to Ohio Northern.

Highlighting the day for the men's team was sophomore Sean Sonnenberg (Napoleon) with a first place win in the 1650-yard freestyle in a time of 17:12.91. Also placing tonight was senior Luke Grille (Londonderry, N.H./ Londonderry) with a second place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:00.65, senior  Alex de la Pena (Elyria/ Catholic) with a third place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:05.13 and sophomore Matt Laughlin (Centerville) with a third place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:05.89.

Leading the women's team was senior Sara Gombash (Perrysburg/ Notre Dame) with a conference and school-record breaking performance in the 200-yard butterfly capturing a first place win with a time of 2:10.57, breaking her own school-record by 3.23 seconds set in 2003. Placing second behind Gombash in the 200-yard butterfly was freshman Ryan Reynolds (Westerville/ South) with a time of 2:16.63. Additional placers for the Yellow Jackets included junior Stephanie Markley (Mansfield/ Senior) placing second in the 200-yard breststroke with a time of 2:32.23, senior Katie Krzywicki (Brook Park/ Midpark) placed second in the 1-meter dive with 327.80 points, senior Katie Klaus (Huron/ Senior) with a third place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 19:16.03 and the 4x400-yard freestyle relay team in a combined effort of Markley, junior Ambica Iyengar (Banglalor, Inda/ Mount Carmel College), Reynolds and sophomore Mallory Hoffman (Gahanna/ St. Francis DeSales) placed second in a time of 3:43.77.

The Yellow Jacket swimmers and divers will continue competition next Saturday (Feb. 24) when they travel to University Hts., Ohio to compete at the Case Western Reserve University Classic National Qualifying Meet, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
