Teams Defeated Mount Union College
BEREA, OHIO —Both the Baldwin-Wallace College men's and women's swimming and diving teams defeated Ohio Athletic Conference rival Mount Union College at the B-W Natatorium today (October 28). The men's score was 117-106 and the women's score was 176-65.
The Yellow Jacket women's team started off with a win in the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:58.15 with team members senior Sarah Anders (North Ridgeville), junior Stephanie Markley (Mansfield/ Senior), senior Sara Gombash (Perrysburg/ Notre Dame) and sophomore Mallory Hoffman (Gahanna/ St. Francis DeSales). Keeping the winning streak going, senior Katie Klaus (Huron/ Senior) in the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 12:02.62, Hoffman in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:03.31. The next first place wins came from junior Ambica Iyengar (Bangalore, India/ Mount Carmel College) in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:21.10, senior Katie Krzywicki (Brook Park/ Midpark) in the required 1-meter dive with 140.40 points, Gombash in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.08, sophomore Kate Ritchey (White Oak, Pa./ McKeesport) in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 59.04, Anders in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:05.82, Iyengar in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:40.64, sophomore Heather Dietz (Richfield/ Revere) in the optional 1-meter dive with 192.05 points and Markley in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:14.43. Finishing the meet was a win by the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:47.38 with teammates Markley, freshman Ryan Reynolds (Westerville/ South), Ritchey and Hoffman.
The Yellow Jacket men's team also started off with a win in the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:42.42 with team members senior Luke Grilli (Londonderry, N.H.), sophomore Nick Gattozzi (Strongsville), senior Alex de la Pena (Elyria) and senior D.J. Mosiniak (Toledo/ St. Francise de Sales). Also earning first place titles were sophomore Sean Sonnenberg (Napoleon) in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:54.43 and the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:13.15, Mosiniak in the 50-yard freestyle with a time 22.71 and de la Pena in the 20-yard IM with a time of 2:05.72. Ending the final event of the meet with a victory was the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:32.54 with teammates freshman Vincent Colwell (Parma/ Normandy), senior Joe Meyer (Strongsville), junior Jake Saul (Napoleon) and Mosiniak.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action at home on Wednesday (Nov. 1) when they take on Oberlin College in the B-W Natatorium beginning at 4:30 p.m.
