Yellow Jacket Men Beat West Virginia Wesleyan and Women Split

BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin-Wallace College men's swimming team defeated West Virginia Wesleyan, 123-99. The women's team split a pair of dual meets as they beat WVWU, 121-116, and lost to Division I Marshall University, 163-79.

The men were lead by freshmen DJ Mosiniak (Toledo/ St. Francis DeSales) and Luke Grilli (Londonderry, N.H./ Londonderry). Mosniak's time of 48.98 in the 100-freestyle broke the previous school record of 49.05 by Mike Miklavcic in 2002. Mosiniak also won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.79 (second fastest in school history). Grilli won the 100-yard backstroke in 57.20 and the 200-yard freestyle in 1:50.79. The tandem also teamed with junior Keith Devore (Mansfield/ Ontario) and senior Scott Roberts (Sandusky Perkins) to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:19.17. In addition, freshman Chris Rochford (Berea) won the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events with scores of 177.22 and 168.75, respectively.

For the women freshman Sara Gombash (Perrysburg/ Toledo Notre Dame) qualified provisionally (B-cut) to the Division III nationals in the 100-yard butterfly event with a time of 1:00.19. Her time also reset her own school-record. Gombash also finished second in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:17.20. Also placing the Yellow Jackets was freshman diver Julie Stancliff (Erie, Pa./ McDowell), who placed second in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives with scores of 220.60 points and 204.15 points, respectively; and freshman diver Katie Krzywicki (Brook Park/Midpark), who finished third in both dives with scores of 177.67 and 175.12 points, respectively. In addition, senior Marynda Yocum (Canal Winchester/ Pickerington) grabbed third place in both the 50-yard freestyle (26.01) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.09).

The Yellow Jacket swimmers and divers will return to action December 4-6 when they travel to Wooster to compete in The College of Wooster Ivitational.
