Men Are Defeated, 121-110
BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College women's swim team defeated OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University, 130-113, today in Berea. The men were defeated by a final score of 121-110.
For the women, freshman Sara Gombash (Perrysburg/Notre Dame) placed first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:21.19 and the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:15.81. Freshman Julie Stancliff (Erie, Pa./McDowell) placed first in the one-meter optional and voluntary dives with scores of 165.95 and 182.95, respectively. Sophomore Emily Wood (Carrolton) finished first in the 100 freestyle in 56.46 seconds and senior Carey McDermott (Salem/ Senior) placed first in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.45 seconds. Junior Lisa Fox (Copley), sophomores Stephanie Zurca (Aurora/ Twinsburg Senior) and Mary Dye (Twinsburg/ Senior) and Gombash combined to place first in the 400 medley relay in 4:15.42. Senior Marynda Yocum (Canal Winchester/ Pickerington), McDermott, junior Kristen Showalter (Bowling Green) and Wood took first place in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:46.37.
Leading the men was freshman D.J. Mosiniak (Toledo/ DeSales), who placed first and set a school record in the 100 freestyle in 48.71 seconds. He also took first in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.03 seconds. Senior Scott Roberts (Sandusky/ Perkins) placed first in the 200 butterfly in 2:06.30. Junior Keith DeVore (Mansfield/Ontario) placed first in the 200 breaststroke in 2:21.78. Freshman Chris Rochford (Berea) placed first in the one-meter optional and voluntary dives with scores of 165.95 and 192.95, respectively. Freshman Luke Grilli (Londonderry, N.H.), DeVore, Roberts and Mosiniak placed first in the 400 medley relay in 3:45.20.
The Yellow Jacket swimming and diving team will be back in action Friday, January 23 when they travel to Washington and Jefferson (Pa.) to compete in a dual meet beginning at 6:00 p.m. They will then return home to host OAC rival Ohio Northern University on Saturday, January 24. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
