B-W: Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Teams Both Place Third at Fredonia

State (N.Y.) 2006 Blue Devil Invitational

BEREA, OHIO-- The Baldwin-Wallace men's and women's swimming and diving teams both placed third in the Fredonia State (N.Y) 2006 Blue Devil Invitational which concluded today (December 3). Freshman Ryan Reynolds (Westerville/South) was the only Yellow Jacket swimmer to place first in an event by taking the women's 400-yard IM event.

In women's action, freshman Ryan Reynolds (Westerville/South) placed first in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:52.62. In the 200-yard freestyle, sophomore Mallory Hoffman (Gahanna/St. Frances DeSales) placed second with a time of 2:03.03. Senior Sara Gombash (Perrysburg/Notre Dame) placed second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.58. The 400-yard freestyle relay placed second with time of 3:59.68, with the team consisting of junior Ambica Iyengar (Bangalore, India/Mt. Carmel College), junior Stephanie Markley (Mansfield/Senior), Reynolds, and Hoffman.

On the men's side, in the 400-yard IM senior Alex de la Pena (Elyria/Elyria Catholic) placed second and sophomore Matt Laughlin (Centerville) tied for fourth with times of 4:29.48 and 4:42.07 respectively. Senior Luke Grilli (Londonderry, N.H.) took second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.14. Sophomore Nick Gattozzi (Strongsville) placed third in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:24.19. Sophomore Sean Sonnenberg (Napoleon) placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:51.91.

The Yellow Jackets will return to action when they travel on December 27 to Florida for their annual winter training trip.
