B-W: Yellow Jacket Men and Women Swimming Team Competes at the Annual Case

Western Reserve Classic/National Qualifying Meet.

BEREA, OHIO -- The Yellow Jackets were back in action this week in a postseason meet. A select group of B-W swimmers and divers competd at the annual Case Western Reserve Classic/ National Qualifying Meet on Saturday in University Circle.

Last Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the Swimming and Diving team wrapped up the regular season in the Ohio Athletic Conference Meet. The women finished 8-6 overall and a perfect 4-0 in OAC dual meets while capturing second place in the meet. The men finished 7-6 overall and 3-1 in the OAC and came in third place.

For the B-W men, senior Scott Roberts (Sandusky/Perkins) finished second for the Yellow Jackets in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 53.58. Also finishing in the top-five for B-W was junior Keith DeVore (Mansfield/Ontario) in the mixed 100 yard breastroke time trial in 1:02.43. Freshman Alex de la Pena (Elyria/Cathollic) placed second in the mixed 200 yard freestyle time trial in 2:05.56.

For the Yellow Jacket women, freshman Sarah Gombash ((Perrysburg/ Toledo Notre Dame) qualified for the Division III Nationals for the second week in a row in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.07. Just a week earlier, Gombash qualified for Nationals by setting an Ohio Athletic Conference record in the same event with a time of 59.57. Also coming in with two top-five finishes was senior Marynda Yocum (Canal Wincehster /Pickerington) in the 100 yard backstroke in 1:03.03 and in the 50 yard freestyle time trial in 26.90. Senior Teri Miller (Dublin/Coffman) came in fourth in the mixed 100 yard backstroke time trial in 1:02.61.

The NCAA Division III National Championships for both the men and women will be in March at Principia Ill. Dates and times will be announced at a later date.
