Yellow Jacket Swimming & Diving Teams Both Fall to John Carroll University

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams fell to host John Carroll University today (Saturday, January 28, 2012) at the William H. Johnson Natatorium .

The Yellow Jacket women lost to JCU, 142-90, and the BW men were also defeated by a score of 124-104. With these loses, the BW women are now 4-7 overall and 2-3 in the OAC and the men are now 3-8 overall and 2-3 in the OAC.

The Yellow Jacket men were led by sophomore Patrick Donohoe (Columbus/Bishop Watterson) who took first place in three events including the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:21.08, the 400-yards individual medley with a time of 4:24.35, and the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:01.25. 

In addition to Donohoe,  sophomore Ryan Stover (Napoleon) took first place in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:07.80.  Also for the men, junior Tony Tijerina (Defiance/Napoleon) took first place in the 1-meter dive with a score of 261.30.  The mens 200-yard medley relay team consisting of Stover, Tijerina, senior Nic Null (Shelby/Mansfield St. Peter’s), and junior Matthew Zych (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West) placed first in a time of 1:44.18.

The women were led by sophomore Angela Musille (Canton/GlenOak) who finished first in both the 400-yard individual medley and the 200-yard breaststroke with times of 4:59.63 and 2:32.27, respectively. Also for the women, four-time NCAA Division III All-American junior diver Julie Pinter (Broadview Heights/ Brecksville-Broadview Hts.) won the 1-meter event with 325.90 points, and won the 3-meter event with 344.35. The womens 200-yard medley relay team consisting of sophomores Emma Gerdes (Avon), Musille, Kayla Miller (Van Wert), and junior Kelsey Richards (Wadsworth), placed first in a time of 1:55.48.

The Yellow Jackets return to action on February 16-18, 2012 in the 2012 Ohio Athletic Conference Championship at University of Akron at the Oliver J. Ocasek Natatorium.
