BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's and women's swimming and diving teams were defeated by Westminster (Pa.) College in its last regular season meet. The men lost, 113-90, and the women lost, 120-82.
With its loss, the Yellow Jacket women end their regular season with an 8-6 overall record and completed the OAC regular season schedule at 4-0. It marked just the second time in school history that the B-W women have had an unbeaten OAC regular season (the other time was in 2002 when B-W won its first-ever OAC women's swim title). With its loss, the B-W men finish 7-6 overall and 3-1 in the OAC.
The Yellow Jacket women individual winners were led by junior Lindsay Alexander (Ashland/Senior) with a win in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:14.02. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Kristen Showalter (Bowling Green), Marynda Yocum (Canal Wincehster/Pickerington), Carey McDermott (Salem/Senior), and Emily Wood (Carrolton) won in 3:51.37. In diving, freshman Julie Stancliff (Erie, Pa./McDowell ) won the one meter dive with a score of 387.75.
The B-W began the meet by winning the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:45.00. The relay team included, junior Keith DeVore (Mansfield/Ontario), freshman Luke Grilli (Londonberry, N.J./Londonberry), D.J. Mosiniak (Toledo/St. Francis Delsales), and Scott Roberts (Sandusky/Perkins). Mosiniak also won the 50 Free in 21.78 and the 100 Freestyle in 49.03. Grilli won the 100 Backstroke in 56.87 and Roberts won the 100 Butterfly in 54.98. The relay team of Chris Cluckey (Bedford/Senior), Alex de la Pena (Elyria/Catholic), Rob Harris (Manasquan, N.J./Wall Township), and Nick Hanna (Napoleon) finished the meet with a victory in the 400 Free Relay in 3:31.31. In addition, freshman diver Chris Rochford (Berea) won the one meter dive with a score of 368.10 points.
The Yellow Jacket swimmers and divers will be in action at the 2004 OAC Championship
Meet which will be held from Thursday, February 12 through Saturday, February 14 at Case Western Reserve University. The site of this year's championships was moved due to work being done at John Carroll University's swimming facility.
