Yellow Jacket Men's and Women's Teams Swept by ONU

BEREA, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams each lost in Ohio Athletic Conference dual match competition today (Saturday, January 21, 2012) in the BW Natatorium in the Lou Higgins Center.  It was Seniors’ & Parents’ Day and the final home meet of the season.

The Polar Bear women defeated BW, 156-86, and the ONU men defeated the Yellow Jackets, 159-82. With its loss, the BW women are now 4-5 overall and 2-2 in the OAC, and the Yellow Jacket men are 3-6 overall and 2-2 in the OAC.

The Yellow Jacket men were led by junior Chris Tuttle (North Royalton) who came in first place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:04.22. Tuttle swam third leg of the victorious 400-yard freestyle relay along with junior Matt Zych (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West), sophomore Ryan Stover (Napoleon), and freshman Bryan Gerber (Sagamore Hills/Nordonia) with a combined time of 3:35.75.

In addition, sophomore Patrick Donohoe (Columbus/Bishop Watterson) came in first place in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:03.42.

The women were led by four-time NCAA Division III All-American junior diver Julie Pinter (Broadview Heights/ Brecksville-Broadview Heights) as she won the 1-meter voluntary event with 270.20 points and the 1-meter optional event with 183.05 points.

In addition, sophomore Angela Musille (Canton/GlenOak) won the 200-yard IM, and the 100-yard breastroke. In the 200-yard IM she swam a time of 2:20.11 and in the 100-yard breastroke she came in at a time of 1:09.08. Freshman Carli Dugan (Mentor) came in first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 59.53 seconds. Freshman Kayla Eyster (Canton, Mich./Plymouth-Canton) came in right behind Dugan in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 59.55 seconds.

The Yellow Jackets end the 2011-2012 regular next weekend, January 27-28 when they compete in a pair of dual meets away from Berea. On Friday, Jan. 27, BW travels to University Circle to swim against Case Western Reserve University at 6:00 p.m. On Saturday, Jan. 28, BW is in University Heights to swim against OAC Cross-town rival John Carroll University at 1:00 p.m.

The 2012 OAC Championship Meet is from February 16-18 at the University of Akron. Prelims begin each day at 11:00 a.m. and the finals for those events will be contested at 6:00 p.m. For more information, please visit the OAC web site at www.oac.org.
