Yellow Jacket Swimming & Diving Teams Both Win at Defiance

won three times to help BW beat Defiance.
DEFIANCE, OHIO Ė The Baldwin Wallace University menís and womenís swimming and diving teams both defeated host Defiance University today (Friday, November 11, 2011) in Ohio Athletic Conference action.
The Yellow Jacket men defeated Defiance, 78-43, and the BW women were also victorious by a score of 82-57. With the wins, the BW men are now 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the OAC and the women are now 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the OAC.
The Yellow Jacket men were led by junior Chris Tuttle (North Royalton) who won both the menís 400-yard Individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke. Tuttleís medley time was 4:44.59 and his backstroke time was 1:02.79. Senior Nick Null (Shelby/ Mansfield St. Peters) won the menís 200-yard freestyle in 1:54.32 and helped the menís 200-yard freestyle relay and 200-yard medley relay teams win its races. The 200 free relay team of Null, junior Tony Tijerina (Defiance/ Napoleon), sophomore Ryan Stover (Napoleon), and junior Matt Zych (Des Plaines, Ill./ Maine West) won the event in a team time of 45.89 seconds. The 200 medley relay team consisting of Null, Stover, freshman Byran Gerber (Sagamore Hills/ Nordonia), and sophomore Patrick Donohoe (Columbus/ Bishop Watterson) also came out on top in 1:47.05.
In addition, Donohoe went on to place first in the 1000-yard freestyle in 11:02.68, Tijerina won the menís 1-meter diving competition scoring 211.4 points and Zych won the 100-yard freestyle in 1:00.03.
The women were led by freshman Kayla Eyster (Canton, Mich./ Plymouth-Canton) who individually won the 200-yard free in 2:11.7 and helped both the 200 free and 200 medley relay teams each win. The team of Eyster, sophomores Angela Musille (Canton/ GlenOak) and Emma Gerdes (Avon) and freshman Caitlin Wilson (Wycombe, Pa./ Council Rock North) won the 200 medley relay in 2:01.73, and the team of Eyster, Musille, junior Kelsey Richards (Wadsworth), and Katie Cvelbar (South Euclid/ Regina) finished first in the 200 free relay in 1:50.91.
In addition, freshman Carli Dugan (Mentor) won the 1000 free in 12:17.94, Musille won the 400 IM in 5:03.88, Gerdes won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:04.59 and freshman Emily Payne (Ligonier, Pa./ Ligonier Valley) won 100 breaststroke in 1:18.83.
Four-time NCAA Division III All-American junior diver Julie Pinter (Broadview Heights/ Brecksville-Broadview Hts.) won the 1-meter event with 239.6 points.
The Yellow Jackets return to action tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 12 when they host Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) College in the BW Natatorium at 1:00 p.m.
