BW Women's Swimming and Diving Team WIns; While Men Fall at Penn State-Behrend
ERIE PENNYLVANIA – The Baldwin Wallace University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams both competed against Penn State-Berend today (Saturday, November 5, 2011). The women won, 161-69, while the men were defeated, 119-96.
The Yellow Jacket women were led by four-time NCAA Division III All-American junior diver Julie Pinter (Broadview Heights/ Brecksville-Broadview Hts.) who won the 1-meter optional event with 248.55 points and captured the 3-meter dive with 259.30 points.
In addition to Pinter, senior Danielle Miller (Van Wert), junior Kelsey Richards (Wadsworth), sophomores Angela Musille (Canton/ GlenOak) and Emma Gerdes (Avon) and freshman Kayla Eyster (Canton, Mich./Plymouth-Canton) each won individual events.
Miller won the 1,000 yard freestyle in a time of 12:16.47 and the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:57.84. Richards win came in the 50 yard freestyle when she finished in a time of 26.47 seconds. Musille won the 200 yard individual medley in a time of 2:22.96 and the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:36.16. Gerdes earned her two victories in the 200 yard freestyle and backstroke in times of 2:08.96 and 2:17.34 respectively. Eyster’s win came in the 100 yard freestyle as she finished in a time of 58.29 seconds.
The BW women placed first in two relays including the 400 yard medley and freestyle relays. The winning 400 yard medley relay team included Musille, Gerdes, Eyster and sophomore Kayla Miller (Van Wert) which finished in a time of 4:19.41. In the 400 yard freestyle relay, Miller, Richards, sophomore Amelia Kopinsky (Seville/Colverleaf) and freshman Carli Dugan (Mentor) won in a time of 4:00.50.
Individually, the Yellow Jacket men were led by sophomore Patrick Donohoe (Columbus/ Bishop Watterson) as he won both the 200 yard Individual Medley and the 200 yard butterfly in times of 2:04.44 and 2:04. 83, respectively. Senior Nic Null (Shelby/ Mansfield St. Peters) won the 50 yard freestyle in a time of 22.87. Freshman Bryan Gerber (Sagamore Hills (Nordonia) won the 200 yard breaststroke in a time of 2:27.31.
The team of senior Zachary Pfeil (Sandusky/Perkins), juniors Matthew Zych (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West),Tony Tijerina (Defiance/ Napoleon) and Chris Tuttle (North Royalton) won the 400 yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:39.56.
The Yellow Jackets next compete on Friday, November 11 when they travel to Defiance for an Ohio Athletic Conference dual meet at 6:00 p.m. The next home meet is on Saturday, Nov. 12 when BW hosts Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) College in the BW Natatorium at 1:00 p.m.
