Yellow Jacket Women's Swimming And Diving Team Finishes Second and the

Men Finished Third at the 2006 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College women's swimming and diving team placed second and the men finshed third overall at the 2006 Ohio Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by John Carroll University in University Heights.

The women scored 140 total points for runner-up honors behind host school John Carroll who tallied 159 points.  Ohio Northern was third with 128 points, Wilmington finished fourth at 62 points and Mount Union was fifth with 47 points.  The B-W men scored 116 points, two points behind JCU in second place with 118.  Ohio Northern took top team honors with 158.5 points, Mount Union was fourth at 96.5 and Wilmington finished fifth with 43.5 points.

For the women, sophomore Stephanie Markley (Mansfield/ Senior), sophomore Ambica Iyengar (Bangalore, INDIA/ Mount Carmel College), freshman Mallory Hoffman (Gahanna/ St. Francis DeSales) and senior Emily Wood (Carrolton) combined efforts to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:42.73.  Other top performances for the women include a third place finish in the 100-yard freestyle by Hoffman in a time of 56.36 seconds.  Iyengar also finished third individually in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:23.36. In the one-meter diving, junior Katie Krzywicki (Brook Park/ Midpark) placed third with 313.40 points.

The men had one indivdual OAC Champion in junior DJ Mosiniak (Toledo/ St. Francis DeSales) in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.63 seconds.  Other All-OAC performers include freshman Sean Sonnenberg (Napoleon) who finished second in the 1650-yard free in a time of 17:02.26.  Junior Alex de la Pena (Elyria/ Catholic) posted a second place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:02.87.  Rounding out the top performances was a 400-yard freestyle relay team composed of junior Luke Grilli (Londonderry, N.H./ Londonderry), sophomore Dave Fournier (Perrysburg/ St. John's), de la Pena and Mosiniak completed the event in a time of 3:14.41.

The Yellow Jacket men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 18 when they travel to University Circle for the Veale Invitational.  The meet is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
