The Baldwin Wallace University Men’s and Women’s Swimmers and Divers Both

Lose at Westminster; Swim at ONU Tomorrow

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams each lost in dual meet competition today at Westminster College of Pennsylvania. The Yellow Jacket men lost, 119-80, and the BW women were defeated, 111-86.

With its loss, the BW men are now 7-4 overall and the women dropped to 5-6 overall.

Leading the way for the women were three individual winners and one winning relay team. Freshman Stephanie Marley (Mansfield Senior) won the 50-yard freestyle in 26.33 seconds, freshman Ambica Iyengar (INDIA) won the 500-yard free in 5:26.99 and junior Emily Wood (Carrollton) won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:35.93. In addition, the 200-yard free relay team of Markley, Iyengar, senior Kristen Showalter (Bowling Green) and freshman Erica Brubach (Powell/ Olengangy) won in 1:30.75.

For the men, sophomore Alex de la Pena led the way by winning two individual events and swam on the winning 200-yard free relay team. De la Pena won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:05.43 and the 200-yard backstroke in 2:05.14 and he swam on the winning relay team along with sophomore Luke Grilli (Londonderry, N.H.) and freshmen Dave Fournier (Toledo/ St. John’s) and Mark Smith (Sandusky/ Perkins). In addition, senior Keith DeVore (Mansfield/ Ontario) won the 200-yard breastsstroke in 2:20.66.

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action tomorrow when they travel to Ada, Ohio and face Ohio Athletic Conference rival Ohio Northern University at noon at the ONU Sports Center. Both the BW men and women enter that meet with undefeated OAC records of 3-0. With wins against ONU, BW can post its first-ever undefeated OAC regular season for both men and women (there are five schools who sponsor swimming in the OAC).
