BEREA, OHIO – The Baldwin-Wallace College men’s and women’s swimming & diving programs were each honored with the All Academic Award given by the College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). In addition, freshman diver Julie Pinter (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) earned the individual All Academic Award for Division III student-athletes.
The team academic award is given to those squads with an overall grade point average of 3.0 or better in their previous term. The Yellow Jacket men qualified with a 3.24 GPA and the women met the cutline with a 3.09 GPA. The B-W men placed three student-athletes on the Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference team earlier this year including junior captain Matt Diamond (Ashtabula/Lakeside).
“The men’s team’s GPA this term was the highest it has been in four years,” noted Head Coach Sara Gildea. “Matt Diamond had the highest average at 3.944 this semester. He leads in the pool and in the classroom and is a great example of the type of student-athlete B-W is known for.”
The individual honor is given to national qualifiers who maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Pinter, a communication disorders major with a 3.666 GPA, had an outstanding freshman campaign that ended with a pair of All-American finishes at the Division III National Championship meet in March. She became only the second athlete in B-W swimming & diving history to earn multiple All-American awards after placing fifth on the three-meter board (435.30 points) and sixth on the one-meter board (400.55).
“Julie worked hard all year in and out of the pool,” said Gildea. “Her efforts paid off with her finish at nationals and her scholastic award. She is a great representative of our program.”
