Baldwin-Wallace Freshman Diver Todd Richert Named OAC Swimmer of the Week for Third Time

Todd Richert
BEREA, OHIO
-- Baldwin-Wallace College freshman diving sensation, school record-holder and NCAA Division III national qualifier Todd Richert (North Royalton) has been named as the January 21 Ohio Athletic Conference Men’s Swimmer of the Week for his performances in a Jan. 19 dual meet victory against Ohio Northern University. It is the third time that Richert has won the award this season.

In defeating ONU, Richert won both the one-meter voluntary and one-meter optional diving events and set school-records in each event. Richert won the one-meter voluntary event with 194.48 points and eclipsed the previous mark of 185.90 points by Dave Humphrey in 1993. In the 1-meter optional event, he eclipsed the 300-point plateau for the first time in his Yellow Jacket career and scored 311.03 points.

On December 2, 2007 at the Fredonia State (N.Y.) Invitational Meet, Richert won the one-meter championship diving event (11 dives) and scored 458.40 points and broke the mark of 414.60 points that was set by Dave Humphrey in 1992. In addition at Fredonia, Richert placed third in the 3-meter championship event and set the school-record by scoring 422.75 points.  He subsequently won his second OAC Swimmer of the Week award for that performance.

Also, on Nov. 10, Richert originally set B-W’s one-meter optional event record and won the 1-meter voluntary event against Ohio Wesleyan University. He was subsequently named as the OAC Swimmer of the Week for the first time this season.

Todd had a great meet and led us to a team victory,” said second-year Yellow Jacket Head Coach Sara Gildea. “He has had an outstanding season so far and still has both the OAC Championship Meet in late February and the NCAA Division III National Meet in March to look forward to.”

Richert and the rest of the Yellow Jacket swimmers and divers will return to the pool on Friday, Jan. 25 when they travel to Hiram College for a dual meet at 6:00 p.m. B-W ends its dual meet season this Saturday when it travels to University Heights to compete against OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center at 12:00 p.m.
