ONU Men and Women Lead After Day One of the 2009 OAC Championships

AKRON, OHIO – Ohio Northern University’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams lead after day one of the 2009 Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Meet hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College at the University of Akron’s Ocasek Natatorium.

ONU’s men totaled 84 points on day one and were followed by John Carroll (50), Baldwin-Wallace (46), Mount Union (34) and Wilmington (21). The Polar Bears captured first place in all five events of the evening.  

ONU’s women totaled 98 points on day one and were followed by John Carroll (54), Mount Union (36), Wilmington (21) and Baldwin-Wallace (18). The Polar Bear women captured first place in all five events of the evening.  

Ohio Northern set OAC records in both the men’s and women’s 200-free relay and 400-yard medley relay. Sophomore Michael Schultz shattered his own conference mark in the 500-free with a time of 4:28.83.

Day two prelims begin at 10 a.m. tomorrow with finals slated to start at 6 p.m. The meet wraps up on Saturday with start times once again at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. For more information, please visit the official tournament website at www.bw.edu/athletics/sd/09oacchampionships.
