BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College softball team lost its 2004 Ohio Athletic Conference season-opening doubleheader today (Sunday, March 28) in Westerville to Otterbein College, 5-4 and 4-0. With the losses, B-W is now 6-6 overall and 0-2 in the OAC and next plays on Wednesday in Alliance at Mount Union College at 3:30 p.m. More information on today's twinbill will follow tomorrow morning.
In the first game, Otterbein scored all five of its runs in the fourth inning to erase a 3-0 Yellow Jacket lead. The Cardinals outhit B-W, 7-5. In defeat, junior pitcher K.C. Young (Olmsted Falls) picked up the loss. Sophomore All-American catcher Nicole Loudin (Sheffield Lake/ Elyria Catholic) led the offense with her third homerun of the season.
In the nightcap, B-W managed just five hits as Otterbein scored once in the first and three in the fourth to hand senior Jeanette Brezina (Parma Valley Forge) her first pitching loss of the season against three previous wins.
Following its trip to Alliance on Wednesday, B-W will travel to Wilmington for an OAC doubleheader on Saturday and then face nonleague foe Kenyon College at home next Sunday, April 4 for two games at 1:00 p.m. at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field.
