The Yellow Jacket Softball Team Loses a Doubleheader at Nationally-Ranked

Muskingum College, 11-3 and 8-1

BEREA, OHIO — The Baldwin-Wallace College softball team lost an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader today (Wednesday, April 6, 2005) at OAC-rival Muskingum College by the scores of 11-3 and 8-1, in New Concord, Ohio.

With the pair of losses, the Yellow Jackets are now 7-9 overall and 2-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. With its wins, Muskingum is now 21-3 overall and 4-0 in te OAC.

In the first game, the Fighting Muskies scored once in the first, six times in the third, three more in the fourth and led 10-0 before B-W tallied three times in the top of the fifth to close to within 10-3. In the bottom of the fifth, Muskingum scored again and the eight-run rule was enacted and ended the game. In the contest, B-W had five hits, including two by senior pitcher Jeanette Brezina (Parma/ Valley Forge). Brezina also suffered the pitching loss and fell to 4-4 overall.

In the nightcap, the Muskies opened up a 4-0 lead after one inning before B-W scored its lone tally in the top of the second to get as close as 4-1. The Muskies tallied once more in the fourth and added three insurance runs in the six to clinch the sweep. Despite the loss, B-W had eight base hits on offense, including three by junior left fielder Casey Ward (Amherst/ Steele) and a pair of hits from by junior two-time All-American caatcher Nicole Loudin (Sheffield Lake/ Elyria Catholic). Senior pitcher K.C. Young (Olmsted Falls) suffered the pitching loss and fell to 3-5 this season. Young also had a base hit on offense.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action tomorrow (April 7) when it hosts nonleague and Cleveland cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University in a twinbill at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field at 3:30 p.m. B-W also plays on Saturday (April 9) in Westerville against OAC-rival Otterbein College in an OAC twinbill at 1:00 p.m.
