Yellow Jacket softball ends spring trip with a two-game sweep; B-W has won its last three games

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College softball team ends its spring trip to Florida with a pair of wins and winners of its last three games.  The Yellow Jackets defeated Messiah (Pa.) College, 9-1, in the first game and defeated Concordia (Wisc.) Univeristy, 10-0, in the nightcap.  Both games ended in five innings.

With the wins, B-W improves to 4-5 for the season.

In the win against Messiah, B-W put five runs on the board in the first inning, highlighted by junior All-American catcher Nicole Loudin's (Sheffield Lake/ Elyria Catholic) second homerun of the season. Loudin finished the first game two-for-three from the plate with two runs batted in and the homerun. B-W added two more runs in the second to take a commanding 7-0 lead. Messiah scored its only run of the game in the top of the third to trail 7-1.  B-W secured the victory with another pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth en route to the 9-1 final.  Senior first baseman Beth Rubosky (Roaming Shores/ Grand Valley) was a perfect three-for-three at the plate with three RBI.

Senior pitcher Jeanette Brezina (Parma Heights/ Valley Forge) got her second win of the season and improves to 2-2 overall. 

In the nightcap, the B-W bats remained hot as the Yellow Jackets began the game with four runs in the first for an early 4-0 lead.  B-W shut the door on Concordia with five more runs in the third to increase the lead to 9-0.  The Yellow Jackets added another run in the fifth en route to the 10-0 shutout. B-W held Concordia to just one hit in five innings.  Four players finished two-for-three at the plate to lead the B-W hitters.

Senior pitcher K.C. Young (Olmsted Twp./ Olmsted Falls) went the distance on the mound for her second win of the season and is now 2-3 for the season.  Young also struck out five batters and continues to lead the team with 28 strikeouts so far this season.

B-W returns home to Berea and is scheduled to face Kenyon College in a doubleheader at the Cuyahoga County Softball Field on March 19 at 1:00 p.m.
